The world’s biggest film award 93rd Oscars 2021, took place in Los Angeles on 25th April I.e. 2 months later than the usual month (read February) this year. The nominations for the same were announced earlier this month by Priyanka Chopra Jonas and her better half- musician husband Nick Jonas.
Amid the ongoing Covid19 pandemic scare only the nominees, their guests, and the show’s presenters were allowed in the award ceremony, held at Los Angeles’s iconic Union Station for the first time.
Here are the key highlights of the show,
Nomadland – Chloe Zhao
Filmmaker Chloe Zhao scripted history at the 93rd Academy Awards by becoming the first woman of color and only the second woman in the Oscars’ history to win the best director trophy. She won the award for her film ‘Nomadland’.
My Octopus Teacher – Craig Foster
My Octopus Teacher, the tale of an eight-limbed creature and her human companion, won the Oscar for the best documentary. The documentary which took 10 years in the making and what started as a personal project is inspired by the director’s own personal experience.
Promising Young Woman – Emerald Fennell
Emerald Fennell won the Oscar for ‘Promising Young Woman’ in the category Original Screenplay. Frances McDormand became a double Oscar winner for Nomadland. She won the best actress (Oscar) for the film. Nomadsland, which won the Oscar for the best film is also produced by Emerald Fennell and many others.
The Father -Anthony Hopkins
‘Oscar 2021 Best Actor’ Anthony Hopkins took the award for his film ‘The Father’. It’s the second Oscar for Hopkins and comes nearly 30 years after his first in 1992, for playing Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs.

Last but not least, the In Memoriam section of the Oscar 2021 payed tribute to Irrfan Khan and Bhanu Athaiya. Sushant Singh Rajput and Rishi Kapoor were remembered too.
