what is Dengue?

Dengue viruses are spread to people through the bite of an infected Aedes species (Ae. aegypti or Ae. albopictus) mosquito.
Symptoms
- Fever
Most of people experience fever, it may be irregular/ on and off frequently. Though we might take normal medicines still this occurrence of fever will not suppress completely. In some cases, we may not have a fever but we may end up with thrombocytopenia i.e., reduction in platelet count.
- Giddiness/body pains
We may work may not, but no matter what we do, unknowingly we will complain of body pains/giddiness and excessive tiredness. As earlier I’ve motioned there is a decrease in platelet count (TCP) in dengue, the more the TCP worsens, the more we suffer from excessive tiredness.
- Nausea
Have you ever experienced vomiting sensation, twisting of your intestines (feeling)?Then for sure, you will witness them if you tested positive for dengue. Many of the patients suffering from nausea feeling, hesitating to eat and drink the food and water/ liquids.

Foods to be included
In most cases dengue results in Thrombocytopenia (low platelets), which may fall beyond 1lakh to 10,000cell count. In general platelet count need to be 1.5L to 2L above. As a measure, it is important to include iron rice sources in the diet along with Vit C sources.

- Pomegranates
Pomegranates are rich in nutrients and minerals. It contains a good amount of iron and fiber. Iron in pomegranates helps in the recovery of platelet count by increasing blood and fiber in it relieves from constipation and helps in free bowel moments. Whereas pomegranates contain a good amount of water in it, which additionally hydrates the body.
Add pomegranate into your daily diet either in the evening snack or mid-morning snack.
- Papaya
On the other hand even papaya aids in the recovery of platelet count. We opt for papaya and papaya leaves for consumption. We can use papaya leaves extracts or leaves in boiled form.
(But make sure few patients may end up with diarrhea on excessive consumption of papaya)
- Kiwi / dragon fruit
Because of the antioxidant-rich properties in the kiwi and dragon fruit, these fruits help in the faster recovery of the dengue, increase in platelet count.

- Green leafy vegetables
- Sesame seeds / thill seeds

Note
- Have rice flakes upma or dosa instead of regular breakfast items.
- Consume mint chutney instead of peanut and coconut chutney.
- Have 1serving of GLV either in curry form or in dal.
- Use sesame rasam or sesame laddoo in your leisure time.
